Premier League exact points totals predicted for Arsenal and Liverpool after title race twist

Liverpool suffered a defeat to Chelsea on Sunday and fell to second place in the Premier League table, with Arsenal now top of the pile after their win over West Ham United

Liverpool's title hopes took a hit following their 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

That setback saw the Reds drop to second place in the Premier League, overtaken by Arsenal, who now perch atop the standings. The Gunners clinched a 2-0 win over West Ham United, catapulting them to the summit as we head into the October international break.

There will be a two-week hiatus before Liverpool resume league action, when they are due to take on Manchester United on 19 October. The Reds could find themselves four points behind the leaders by the time they kick off at Anfield, with Arsenal facing Fulham a day earlier.

After a disheartening weekend for Liverpool, Opta Analyst has tried to predict the final Premier League table. The website has crunched the numbers and forecasts that Arsenal will secure the crown this season, finishing ahead of the Reds.

The prediction sees the Gunners topping the table with 77 points (77.04), ahead of Liverpool, who the prediction believes will finish second with 75 points (74.99). Manchester City are next in the predicted table with a final points tally of 68 (67.6).

Crystal Palace are expected to finish in fourth place with 63 (63.17) points, while Chelsea are hot on their heels in fifth place with 61 (61.43) points. That could secure a Champions League spot based on the English coefficient in UEFA's rankings.

Arsenal are tipped as the favourites to clinch the Premier League title, according to the prediction model, boasting a 44.23% chance of victory. The Reds, meanwhile, trail with a 32.17 per cent probability.

Liverpool have had a tricky past week with three defeats in all competitions including a Champions League reverse at the hands of Galatasaray.

"You have to work really hard to reach a certain level and then it's very hard in football because you also play against very good teams to keep that level going and what I mean with that is consistency," Reds boss Arne Slot said after Saturday's defeat to Chelsea.

"But it is clear we had our changes in the summer, players came in in different moments. "Last week there's hardly been any training time and still we need to try to bring these players in.

"If the result would have been better today with a draw or a win which was both possible, I don't say we deserved it, a draw we definitely deserved then we would have had a great start to the season if you take into account everything what happened in the summer at Liverpool."
