Four Lioness heroines have been shortlisted for the Women's Footballer of the Year award. The winner will be announced at a glittering event hosted by TV pundits Gabby Logan and Jamie Carragher in May.

England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, who saved two penalties in the shootout which clinched victory in last year's Euros final, is in line for the honour.

Forward Alessia Russo, who scored England's crucial equaliser that took the match with Spain to extra time and penalties, has also been nominated, along with team mates Lauren Hemp and Ella Toone.

The growing importance of the awards now in their fourth year marks a major landmark in the continued rise of the womens game.

Hostess Gabby Logan said: "This event shines a deserved spotlight on the star athletes, dedicated teams and organisations driving the extraordinary rise of womens football. It is a moment of celebration for the whole game."

Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher, who will co-host, added: The shortlist reflects just how powerful and dynamic the womens game has become - not just on the pitch, but across business, media and culture. These awards recognise the trailblazers and innovators shaping the future of women's football. I can't wait to celebrate with the nominees on May 7."

Other standout nominees for various awards include leading domestic stars Bunny Shaw and Vivianne Miedema, alongside global icons including Alxia Putellas, Ewa Pajor and Linda Caicedo.
