The famous cavalry charge of the Coral Stewards Cup takes centre stage on day five of Glorious Goodwood.
Finding the winner is a bit of a needle in a haystack but it is a tremendous betting race with so many each-way options. Our man Jason Heavey who has had 10 winners this week is in red-hot form.
On Friday he struck with Defiantly (11-4) and Galen (3-1) and two of his each-way fancies American Affair (12-1) and Revels (11-1) were also on target. He offers his thoughts on each race on day five. (Prices correct at the time of writing).
Daily Star Chief Tipster Jason Heavey is one of the countrys leading newspaper tipsters. In 2023 he did the rare double of winning both national tipping titles the Racing Post Press Challenge and also the coveted Racing Post Naps Table. He is currently the leading red-top tipster in the country in the National Press Challenge table.
The Daily Star has got everything you need to celebrate Glorious Goodwood - including a FREE 2 William Hill shop bet every day of the festival, plus packed pullouts every day from the pundits you trust. Don't miss out! Pick up your paper from Tuesday July 28 until Saturday August 1, 2026.
Things are looking up again for ALIGN THE STARS.
Charlie Johnstons horse was a decisive winner of the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle to get his career firmly back on track. Two years ago he won at this meeting and looked a stayer of real promise before losing his way last season.
The five-year-old is back in the groove and at 12-1 he looks a fair old price in this competitive heat.
Valedictory and Hopewell Rock will have their supporters while Small Fry appeals as an each-way play
TIP: ALIGN THE STARS
Each-way: Small Fry

Punters should take another chance on OPPORTUNITY.
The four-year-old did this tipster a favour by scoring at Royal Ascot and he now steps up in class in the Group Three contest.
Al Aasy, Ghostwriter and In My Teens will provide stern opposition but William Haggass progressive horse has plenty more to come.
With the dead eight runners, Kings Gambit at 9-1 offers a bit of place value.
TIP: OPPORTUNITY
Each-way: Kings Gambit
SANTORINI STAR is fancied to get back on track.
She is a super tough and talented mare who put in a rare below-par effort at the royal meeting. The stronger stamina test and removal of headgear could spark a revival in fortunes and at 6-1 she holds plenty of appeal.
Waardah and Danielle fought out the finish last year and are respected while Group One winner Consent and Oaks sixth Amelia Earhart add extra intrigue to the race.
TIP: SANTORINI STAR
Each-way: Consent
TWO TRIBES goes to war again as he bids for back-to-back wins in this famous old handicap.
Billy Loughnane steered Richard Spencers sprinter to victory 12 months ago and this year the five-year-old is 9lb higher in the weights.
However, he showed his wellbeing with a fantastic run at Ascot last Saturday when second to the handicap blot Amazing Journey. David Egan will do the steering and the 9-1 shot has every chance.
Far Above Dream, Mitbaahy and Completely Random are among a host of dangers
TIP: TWO TRIBES
Each-way: Completely Random
STARTLED (8-1) can surprise a few people in another tasty little handicap.
Richard Hughes filly has won twice this season and also posted a fine second over this track. The soft ground may have blunted her speed at Chester last time but with Harry Vigors claiming 5lb off her back she can make her presence felt.
Start Me Up, Naval Light and the overpriced Egoli (12-1) should keep the selection competitive
TIP: STARTLED
Each-way: Egoli
MARKET LEADER can strike for Karl Burke in this red-hot maiden.
The colt cost 450,000 guineas, has a Gimcrack Stakes entry and showed plenty of debut promise at Windsor.
Ballydoyle runner Speakers Corner, who holds Group One entries, also ran well on his debut and is a big danger.
Leadlight could run into a place at a good price
TIP: MARKET LEADER
Each-way: Leadlight
Im throwing EL MATADOR into the ring as one of the bets of the day.
Ralph Becketts 9-1 shot is better than his bare form and may just be on a decent handicap mark. He has to overcome a bad draw and hope that jockey Hector Crouchs luck takes a turn for the better.
Point Of Contact, Boyfriend and Real Gain are also in the mix while Crest of Fire has been all the rage in the betting.
TIP: EL MATADOR
Each-way: Real Gain
1.50 Align The Stars
2.25 Opportunity (nap)
3.00 Santorini Star
3.35 Two Tribes
4.10 Startled
4.45 Al Wathba
5.20 El Matador (nb)
