Horror MotoGP crash sees bikes flying as Moto2 race at Austrian GP is red-flagged

Enea Bastianini's bike was left strewn in the middle of the track in a position which was unavoidable for Hafizh Syahrin who took a heavy fall on the impact

A MotoGP star had a miracle escape after a horror crash during the Moto2 race in Austria.

Riders were taken to the medical centre for check-ups after the disastrous collision which happened just three laps into the race.

Moto2 championship leader Enea Bastianini went down but his wayward bike was left on track and unavoidable for the bikes speeding towards it.

Hafizh Syahrin took the worst of the hit, with his bike being sent flying into the air.

Andi Farid Izdihar and Edgar Pons were both also involved in the terrifying accident.

Officials immediately red-flagged the race, as track and medical staff rushed to the scene.

MotoGP confirmed quickly that all four riders were conscious despite the devastating impact.

Syahrin's team boss Gino Borsoi said: "The rider is fine, with many bruises, especially on the hip, but has always been conscious."

Bastianini was able to escape the track before the impact but was left with his head in his hands as he saw the subsequent collision.

Parts of the bike were left strewn all over the track.

Fans admitted their dismay at watching the crash on social media.

One said: "Please be okay. Thats terrifying."

Another added: "Fingers crossed everyone is safe and well - horrific crash."

While a third fan said: "My heart is still beating fast, this was a terrifying crash. Hope all the riders are okay."
