Motorbike racing hero Anthony Gobert is receiving end-of-life care, his brother has sadly announced.
The Australian, 48, was known as a maverick of Superbike racing when he burst onto the scene in the 1990s. In 1994, as a wild card, Gobert sensationally won a race at the World Superbike finale in Phillip Island in his homeland.
He went on to collect further wins for Kawasaki as a full-time World Superbike rider moving across the 500cc Grand Prix (now MotoGP) with the factory Suzuki team. He was later sacked for failing a drug test before further stints in Grand Prix racing and then back in World Superbikes.

Gobert endured personal problems with battles with drugs and alcohol. He was reportedly left homeless at one stage.
His brother Aaron has now announced that Anthony is receiving palliative care following a short illness. Announcing on Facebook, he wrote: It is with sadness that we have to announce that Anthony is currently hospitalised in palliative care and is in the final stages of his life following a short illness please be aware that we will provide any available updates in due course.

He added: During this difficult time, the videos of Anthony being distributed during what has been an extremely troubled period of his life are deeply concerning, however, on behalf of Anthony, we must thank his many supporters from throughout his racing career.
The videos referenced are believed to be clips released on Anthony Gobert's own official Facebook page for a film about his career. He kept illustrious company during his career, with bike racing icon Valentino Rossi revealing he partied with the Aussie.
"I did party with Gobert in Rio... difficult. Very difficult! Difficult to stay in his slipstream!" Rossi told TNT Sports in 2021.
