The worlds of F1 and MotoGP have collided after Ferrari star Carlos Sainz offered a helping hand to Marc Marquez as his countryman attempts to put the injury torment of the last two years behind him.

Eight-time world champion Marquez has been beset by an arm problem ever since a horrifying crash at the start of the delayed 2020 season at Jerez. The Repsol Honda rider has been forced to miss much of the 2022 campaign after undergoing another operation on the limb but made his latest comeback at Aragon at the weekend.

Sainz was an interested spectator at the Spanish circuit and is delighted to see Marquez back in action, even if his comeback race ended shortly after a first-lap collision with current world champion Fabio Quartararo.

Marquez recently moved to the Spanish capital Sainzs hometown to be closer to Ruiz Cotorro, a doctor renowned for treating sporting stars, including tennis legend Rafael Nadal. While Sainz is no longer based in Madrid, he has gone out of his way to help Marquez settle in.

Since I found out he was coming to live in Madrid, I tried to help him adapt himself and feel as comfortable as possible in my hometown, said Sainz in a promotional video for Estrella Galicia 0,0.

I don't live in Madrid anymore, but I go back there every weekend and try to meet him. We met twice for dinner, I have shown him the gym where I train, he is also training there now, and we have a lot of contact.

Obviously, I have tried to give him all the encouragement I could for this comeback. I think he made an incredible recovery to come back in Aragon and to do everything the way he did. That shows the good sportsman he is and now, well, we all told him to prepare for 2023, which I think its going to be his year.

Sainz also discussed another Spanish passion, basketball, with the national team of Spain winning the EuroBasket championship at the weekend.

Once again, Spanish sport is at the top of the game, he said. I think that Spanish sport is going through a very good moment and in the Eurobasket I think they have done very well. It was an incredible final match, I watched it from home enjoying an Estrella Galicia 0,0, so I celebrated it like everyone else.
