Ronda Rousey needed just seconds to submit rival Gina Carano in an anticlimactic finish to the highly-anticipated clash between two of MMA's biggest pioneers.

In the main event of Netflix's debut MMA broadcast, 39-year-old Rousey - the UFC's first women's bantamweight champion - and 44-year-old Carano - who hadn't fought since 2009 - were both welcomed with deafening cheers at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California on Saturday evening local time

The walk-outs proved longer than the actual bout, as Rousey instantly dragged Carano to the canvas and got her opponent into a trademark armbar to clinch the submission triumph in just 15 seconds.

Rousey had not fought for a decade and rolled back the years against Carano, finishing the bout with an armbar to record her 13th win in 15 fights. Ten of those have come thanks to submission after an armbar.

Both fighters hugged straight after the contest, with Rousey revealing in her post-fight interview that her professional fighting days were now behind her.

She said on Netflix's coverage of the event: "There is no way I could have ended it better than this. I want to have some more babies and I have to get cooking."

Netflix has made waves with televising fights including Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury in the last six months and is set to broadcast the upcoming bout between the two later this year.

The influencer Jake Paul has been a major driving force behind the broadcaster's pivot to live streaming of fights. During Netflix's broadcast of Rousey vs Carano, the UFC announced the return of Conor McGregor.

Paul responded to Dana White, accusing the UFC chief of trying to overshadow his promotion. "Drop it during our event, it doesnt matter that just shows how pressed they are," he said.

"Little insecure boys trying to piggyback off our event and trying to put some news over top of us, it's not going to work, buddy."
