Punters shun LIV Golf rebels and pick Rory Mcllroy and Scottie Scheffler in Masters bets

Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are being favoured by punters over all 18 LIV golfers in the Masters field to get their hands on the famous Green Jacket on Sunday

There are 18 LIV Golf rebels hoping to spoil the PGA Tour party at the Masters - but punters don't have much faith in the renegades.

Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are the joint favourites to claim the Green Jacket this weekend and more bets have been placed on the duo than the entire LIV contingent.

That's according to Paddy Power, who note that the world's leading two golfers are being heavily backed over the defectors to the controversial Saudi-Backed series.

McIlroy is chasing elusive Masters glory that would make him just the sixth player in history to win all four major titles and complete the career Grand Slam.

Defending champion Scheffler, meanwhile, has emerged as a clinical winning machine and was the only man to stop McIlroy getting his hands on the Green Jacket last year.

LIV has six past major champions teeing it up at Augusta, including Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson, but the bookies have placed the chances of any of the 18 rebels winning at 5/1. And only 14 per cent of total Masters bets have been placed on the LIV converts.

Punters are predicting that PGA Tour stars will dominate, with an odds-on price of 1/12 for a player from the established American circuit to be crowned champion of the most prestigious major in golf.

Rachael Kane, Paddy Power spokesperson said: It appears punters are sticking with the devil they know players from the PGA Tour.

"The LIV Tours aim was to win golfs popularity contest, but if the betting is anything to go by, theyre about as popular with punters as they are with Rory McIlroy, who is 6/1 to complete a career Grand Slam and win his first green jacket come Easter Sunday."

McIlroy is among the most vocal LIV critics and would prove a hugely popular winner if he finally ends his nine-year drought of major heartbreak.

But the Northern Irishman will be wary of the threat that big-name LIV stars will pose, especially with a point to prove ahead of their return to a world class field on Thursday.

Open champion Cameron Smith (25/1) and 2020 champion Johnson (22/1) are the shortest priced LIV players, while a resurgent Brooks Koepka cannot be discounted after the four-time major champion won the third LIV event of the season in Orlando last weekend.

Tiger Woods, meanwhile, is priced at 50/1 to claim his sixth Green Jacket as the 47-year-old continues to push his ailing body to the limits following his life-threatening high speed crash in February 2021.
