Paige Spiranac has been caught up in a cheating scandal

Golf star Paige Spiranac burst into tears when she was accused of cheating at a major tournament - just days after being the target of cruel trolls on social media.

The 32-year-old, who has been dubbed the 'world's sexiest woman' by many golfing fans, made an appearance at the Internet Invitational for the final match of the $1million (759k) tournament hosted at Big Cedar Lodge, Missouri, US.

It appeared that Spiranac pressed down on some of the long grass in what some are perceiving as an attempt to improve the lie for team-mate Malosi Togisala.

Golf coach Peter Finch immediately spotted the action, but did not discuss it with the golfing star until her team lost the round. The social media star then responded: "I thought you could do thatI didnt realise that you couldnt do that. I didnt think I improved I didnt move the ball."

After being told that she couldn't tamper with the grass, tears formed as she insisted: "I wasnt trying to cheat. I would never do that.

"I just dont want people to think that I would try to cheat." One of her opponents then added: "Were not pressing it. Its all good. Its fine.

"Its not an issue."

After the incident, Spiranac stepped away from the group on the last green. Her team ultimately lost the high-stakes tournament as the winning side split the huge $1million prize pot.

Spiranac is one of the biggest stars in the sport on social media with an incredible four million followers on Instagram and regularly wows her fans with bikini snaps and glamorous pictures.

But, it was only last week when she was flooded with abuse from cruel trolls. She's recently received a barrage of insults from people online, which pushed Spiranac to post a teary video online.

The beauty said that she's struggling to deal with the abhorrent abuse she receives. After sharing some of the nasty messages,she said: "Thank you so much for all the really kind messages. It truly means a lot to me. I dont normally do this but this hate, for some reason, has just been really hitting home for me.

"Ive struggled socially my entire life. Ive struggled in big groups of people, making friends, keeping friends, relating to other people, reading social cues, saying the right thing at the right time. Its just been really hard for me my entire life.

"I know that might sound weird considering what I do but Im just not effortlessly liked. Its just hard for me in big groups of people."
