Ronnie O'Sullivan admits he's 'not bothered' by winning record-breaking eighth world title

EXCLUSIVE Ronnie O'Sullivan has admitted he's not motivated by winning an eighth World Snooker Championship - even if it would be nice for the fans

Ronnie OSullivan has admitted hes not bothered about shattering snookers ultimate record.

The Rocket, 49, is currently tied with Stephen Hendry with seven world titles - but the idea of winning an eighth doesnt drive him. However, he joked that it would be nice for fans.

OSullivan has seven world titles to his name - the most recent coming back in 2022, when he bested Judd Trump at the Crucible.

Everybody talks about the eighth world title, he told Daily Star Sport when asked about his motivation. I've never really been bothered by that.

But I think at this stage in my career, I've probably got a good three or four attempts at it. Instead of just saying, I'm going to go for one world title, I probably set myself to get two.

"Because I think if you aim for two, you'll probably get one. But if I aim for one, I probably wouldnt get one at all.

Two would be great, but in the back of my mind, I think theres a chance to get one to make it eight. I do think that's probably the only thing that motivates me.

Not that it motivates me, but if there is something that I think the fans and the snooker world would like to see, they'd like to see someone be out on their own with eight world championships.

OSullivan was beaten, comprehensively, by Zhao Xintong, who he has tipped to be the superstar of the sport.

"He came back from three years off and played great stuff in the qualifying tournaments...He came into the World Championships - no ones surprised he won because hes such a good talent.

"Considering he was away from the game for as long as he was, to come in and play like he didI felt good for him."
