Ex-IndyCar star Rick Treadway killed in horror crash just days after passing of NASCAR Icon

Rick Treadway, who competed in the Indianapolis 500, has passed away after being involved in a motorcycle accident as his former teammate has paid tribute to the veteran driver

IndyCar veteran Rick Treadway passed away following an accident over the wekend

The racing world has suffered another tragedy after a veteran driver was tragically killed in a horror crash on Saturday (May 30).


Indianapolis 500 star Rick Treadway has sadly passed away at the age of 56 following a motorcycle accident, according to Fox Sports. He was the son of Fred Treadway, who served as the owner of Treadway Racing The race team, which Treadway raced for in 2002, won the 1997 Indianapolis 500.


His death comes just says after the sudden death of NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, who tragically passed away at the age of 41 after battling pneumonia, which turned into sepsis.


Tributes have been made to the former IndyCar driver from his teammate to two-time Indy 500 winner Arie Luyendyk.

Taking to X, Luyendyk wrote: "Sad news hearing Rick Treadway passed away last Saturday. Our condolences go out to my former @IndyCar team owner Fred Treadway, Janice and Brian Treadway.


"Rick was a fun, crazy, humble, wild and brave personality! RIP Ricky. We are thinking of you Treadway family".

Racing reporter Bob Pockrass aslso shared the sad news and said: Sad news: Rick Treadway, who started the 2002 Indianapolis 500, died May 30 in a motorcycle accident. He was 56."


Treadways career highlight was the Indy 500 start, which saw him get the drive in 11 races in the 2001 and 2002 seasons for his fathers teams Treadway-Hubbard Racing and Treadway Racing.

He made his INDYCAR SERIES debut in 2001 at Kentucky Speedway and his final start in 2002 at the season finale at Texas Motor Speedway. His best finish was fifth at the 2001 season finale at Texas.

Treadway also competed in Formula 2000 junior formula racing and in SCCA competition.
