The wife of a major American football coach has reportedly been rushed to hospital after allegedly being shot in their family home, according to a US media outlet.
ESPN has reported that the wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, Mia, has reportedly suffered serious injuries from multiple gunshot wounds in their Virginia home on Sunday evening (July 26). According to the sports news outlet, Mia is in a stable condition in hospital.
Loudoun County Sheriff's Office are yet to name the victim in the incident but have confirmed that Eric and Mia's 27 -year-old son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, has been arrested and charged.
Speaking to ESPN, Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Leah Paul said police were called to a property on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn, Virginia, at 7:32pm to reports of a shooting.
Eric Bieniemy reportedly left the Chiefs' training camp after being with the team in Missouri on Sunday.
Elijah Zion has now been charged by Loudoun County Sheriffs Office Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and Discharge of a Firearm Inside of a Dwelling. Law enforcement confirm he has been held with bond and taken to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
In a statement, the sheriff's office said: "The Loudoun County Sheriffs Office (LCSO) is investigating a shooting that occurred on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn on July 26, 2026.
"At approximately 7:32 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a shooting. Deputies located one adult female suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
"Elijah Zion Bieniemy, 27, of Ashburn, was arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and Discharge of a Firearm Inside of a Dwelling. He was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center where he was held without bond.
The investigation is ongoing, and there is not believed to be any threat to the public. Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office at 703-777-1021.

The Kansas City Chiefs have also issued a statement to only confirm an incident has occurred involving Eric Bieniemy's family. A spokesperson for the Kansas City Chiefs said: "The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy's family.
"Out of respect for their privacy, we won't have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them
