Rumours of the Assassins Creed franchise's demise may well have been exaggerated after all. Assassins Creed Shadows has been racking up impressive player counts, and while fans are working their way through its expansive open world Japan setting, there's much, much more to come for Yasuke and Naoe.
In our own review, we awarded the game 4.5/5, saying "Simply put, Assassins Creed: Shadows is the biggest game in the long-running series, but also one of the finest. From its gameplay variety to its gorgeous open world, its the first game in the franchise to truly grab me in its vice grip since Origins."
The game's first expansion, Claws of Awaji, has been revealed, and we've got the full rundown below.
The only confirmed expansion for Shadows will add a new weapon type, and take players to an entirely new location with its own side activities, skills, and gear.
It'll also reportedly last for around 10 hours a far cry from the 60-odd hours I've spent in Shadows so far. It'll also have a "different vibe", the game's creative director Jonathan Dumont told Game Rant.
"It will have a different vibe, a bit spookier I would say," Dumont explains, while associate game director Simon Lemay-Comtois has suggested that the enemies in the game, the Sanzoku Ippa, will operate similarly to our heroes.
"They're known to use tactics not too dissimilar to the players' including creative use of counter-intelligence measures," he explained, which if you're anything like me means a lot of stealth. The expansion will take part after the game's ending, too.
The expansion's website says:
"Discover the upcoming expansion of Assassin's Creed Shadows. Travel to a new distinctive region - the island of Awaji - a place of mysterious beauty. Reclaim a lost treasure while avoiding the traps and ambushes of deadly new foes. Feel the tension of being hunted by a new faction, threatening the mysterious island of Awaji."
"Master the B, a new weapon type for Naoe, unlock new skills, gear, abilities, and get over 10 hours of additional content."
Sadly, not yet. We know the expansion is expected to launch in 2025, but that's all we have so far.
After Ubisoft adjusted its Season Pass plans, players who preordered Shadows will get the expansion at no extra cost.
Sadly, we're not yet sure how much it'll cost for those that didn't but we'll find out soon enough.
