Six years after its last FIFA appearance, Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena stadium may be poised for a comeback in EA FC 26, following the club's decision to terminate its license with Konami's eFootball.
Currently, the football gaming landscape is buzzing, with UFL, eFootball, and the newly-launched Rematch all providing stiff competition for EA FC (formerly FIFA).
Still, EA has long held the keys to the kingdom as far as licensing deals go, and while some clubs like Inter and AC Milan moved to rival eFootball, one of those 'breakaway' sides could be coming back into the fold.
Konami's eFootball (formerly Pro Evolution Soccer) has had the license for Bayern's club name, emblem, and kits in recent years, but as of June 26 (this Thursday), that seemingly won't be the case.
It's undeniably a blow to Konami, but given the strength of other sports titles that don't have any licenses to back them up, it's far from the end of the road.
There's no guarantee that Bayern's license will make the jump to EA FC, but it seems highly likely given the sheer volume of licenses EA already has for its football series.
The Allianz Arena hasn't been in EA's portfolio since FIFA 19, so if you played the Champions League mode in EA FC 25, you would've been playing at the fictional Sanderson Park instead, which has an in-game capacity of 39,000, significantly less than the Allianz Arena's 75,000.
The potential transfer of rights follows Liga MX, the Mexican league, also moving away from Konami's title. Will Mexican clubs appear in EA FC? It's too soon to say, but we'll likely find out soon if the game is to hit its usual September release window.
EA FC 25 boasts over 120 different authentic football stadiums, and this number could potentially increase by one for EA FC 26.
