Destiny 2 developer Bungie has been busy, having recently revealed its Marathon reboot, and now we know what will follow the current trio of Episodes for the long-running loot shooter.
The last expansion, The Final Shape, debuted in June 2024, but Bungie will shift to multiple expansions each year that are smaller in scope.
During today's The Edge of Fate reveal stream, the studio confirmed The Edge of Fate will arrive on July 15, while also revealing another trio of updates.
Here's everything we learned about the new "multi-year" Fate saga from today's stream, including when you'll be able to play each chapter.
As part of the reveal, Bungie confirmed that the Renegades expansion launches in Winter 2025, while Shattered Cycle arrives in Summer of next year.
Ash and Iron, a sizeable free update with sandbox changes, new activities and events will launch on September 9, 2025, while March 3, 2026 will see a similarly sized update called Shadow and Order.
Finally, The Alchemist will launch in Winter 2026, but Bungie gave us some early gameplay of The Edge of Fate and it sure looks like Destiny alright.
Look a little closer, though, and there are new enemies, abilities, and a fresh area.
The Edge of Fate starts with "an invitation" to a place called Kepler, a new location in Destiny which hasn't been since in the series so far. The devs said it's inspired by Metroidvania titles, and it's inspired by exotic missions and The Dreaming City.
Bungie is also introducing World Tiers, which will allow players to experience the new location differently each time. The studio also promised a renewed focus on quests with a nonlinear campaign.
A new ability, called Matterspark, will let players turn into an "electric rolling ball of death" which will factor into combat and exploration. It looks a lot like Samus' ball-like mode in Metroid titles, and stems from Dark Matter but that won't be a new subclass, it seems.
Can't wait for the new content? A new event, Rite of the Nine, launches today and sees players work their way through a gauntlet of Dungeons. It's available until July 15, and is free for all players, while the new Heavy Metal PvP mode arrives on Friday with a combat Sparrow called the Griffin up for grabs.
Elsewhere, Bungie is making big changes to the core Destiny 2 game to streamline the title. For one, the new 'Portal' is a fresh frontpage for the long-running game.
Tied into this is the new Solo Ops option, which is a new one-player activity category, while other categories should help players squad up for PvP or Pinnacle content. You'll also be able to work your way up through the Destiny 2 power climb solely playing PvP.
Existing activities can be customised, too, boosting rewards with more challenging modifiers.
Armor 3.0 will introduce set bonuses and revamp existing armour systems for the first time since Shadowkeep back in 2019, while World Tiers will influence fancier weapon perks and visuals.
Elsewhere, The Tower will gain a new Shooting Range area to test builds and weapons, Solstice will return with new Holofoil weapons, and more.
Finally, Bungie gave a quick peek at Renegades, and if we're not mistaken, that's a lightsaber...
Renegades will get a full reveal in September, and is tipped to be "very different" to The Edge of Fate.
