Diablo 4 fans torn on 'boring' Season 9 reveal but there is one killer feature

Diablo 4 fans have been left disappointed by Season 8's content updates while acknowledging long-term improvements to the game's systems, and now they're just as torn on Season 9

Will Diablo 4 Season 9 be better than Season 8?

Diablo 4 Season 8 is a few weeks old at this point, and it'd be fair to say that the community hasn't been entirely pleased with the update.

While we spoke to the devs ahead of launch and they promised big, bold changes, many have seen the update as pretty threadbare.

From a repetitive new seasonal activity called Apparition Incursions, which are over in the blink of an eye, to new boss powers that fans aren't overly impressed with, one of the biggest issues has been the revamped Battle Pass that's straight up less generous.

With community sentiment pretty low, Blizzard took to one of its Campfire Chats to reveal information about Season 9, Sins of the Horadrim, but fans still aren't convinced.

Diablo 4 Season 9 has been revealed

Last week's Campfire Chat, seen above, begins with a sort of post-mortem on Season 8.

The team acknowledges that players were pushed towards the seasonal activity a little too often, but did acknowledge that levelling is in a good spot right now and that fans don't need to use meta builds to have fun while also wanting to shake up the meta more in upcoming seasons.

There are also a series of class balance changes promised, while Overpower is getting a nerf.

Onto the small matter of Season 9, then (which lands on the PTR server today), and at first glance, it's perhaps a little too routine.

There are new powers (just like in prior seasons), but the big difference is that the new Horadric Spells can be customised. Rather than setting a few abilities for the season, you'll be able to build your own spells this time around.

These look flashy, too, like meteor showers and more, and you'll be able to tweak them throughout the season.

Still, many fans have slammed the state of the game.

"Im so confused with your vision for this game," one YouTube comment reads.

"Every season its just a recycled/re-imagined power. Why not take inspiration from other games in the genre and release seasons with a new mechanic? If the community loves the mechanic, add it to the base game."

"Dont understand how thats so difficult to comprehend. It really doesnt matter how these powers change your skills when youre still running around doing the same boring content."

"A campfire is for listening to the players, but you still insist on doing things your own way," another added.
