EA boss reveals Switch 2 plans for EA FC and Madden ahead of Super Bowl weekend

It'd be fair to say EA never fully embraced the Switch, but its CEO seemingly wants to put more of its big sports franchises including EA FC on Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo finally revealed Switch 2 in January, and while we're still waiting to see a little more on April 2 at a console-focused Nintendo Direct, one publisher is looking to right the wrongs of its Switch 1 output.

In its earnings call, EA's CEO Andrew Wilson was asked about the console and specifically name-checked two of the publisher's biggest franchises in EA FC and Madden.

As per VGC, Wilson said: Any time a new console comes into the marketplace, thats of benefit to us.

It gives us the ability to access and acquire new players. Typically, weve had franchises perform very well on Nintendo platforms."

EA wants to support Switch 2

Switch 2 is coming this year

Certainly, our expectation is that products like FC and Madden and others might find real energy on the platform, as they have done in the past," he added.

When you think about something like The Sims and the My Sims Cozy Bundle, which performed well ahead of our expectations 50% of all players were new to EA that represents a great opportunity for us.

So again, [there is] nothing in our models at this juncture. But our expectation is that any time a great new console comes into the marketplace that gives us access to new players and new communities, we have the IP that will benefit from that.

The proof is in the pudding, however. While the Switch soared in terms of sales, EA always felt like it only had one foot in the water.

Madden didn't see any release on the hybrid system, while EA FC was, sadly, often a highly compromised port of those versions found on other systems, often repeated with new kits and player updates but little else.

Apex Legends and It Takes Two saw very solid Switch ports, but the former was hampered by the console's lower power level. Could Apex Legends get a better version on Switch 2?

As for EA, the company announced yesterday it acquired TRACAB Technologies to help it power its sports titles, while last week saw it re-release of The Sims 1 and 2.
