Every game with free Nintendo Switch 2 updates including one which blew me away

The likes of Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury have all been updated for the Switch 2...

If you just picked up a Nintendo Switch 2, you'll know that the console (and Mario Kart World) don't come cheap.

Thankfully, it's backward compatible, so your existing Switch 1 games aren't going anywhere. And, while you will need to fork out for paid upgrades for the likes of The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, there are a number of free upgrades already.

Here are all the updated games, including what you can expect when you fire them up from new features to graphical improvements.

All Nintendo Switch 2 free upgrades

Twelve games will see free improvements released via downloadable patches.

"By connecting your Nintendo Switch 2 to the internet and performing a system update, you can download free updates for selected games that may improve graphics or add support for features such as GameShare," Nintendo explains.

"The contents of these free updates will differ depending on the game."

Thankfully, the company has revealed what we can expect from each. While some games will gain HDR support or the option to share experiences with other players locally via GameShare, some are getting improved resolution and frame rates.

These include ARMS, Super Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury, and, perhaps most significantly, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Both games were in poor shape when they launched, with frame rate drops giving me a genuine headache. While the textures are still fairly low-resolution, I'm stunned by how well they run now.

This really does feel akin to a remaster, running better than it ever has done. The game has gone from barely hitting 30 FPS at times to now running at 60 FPS. Image quality is so much better, even when running on a 4K TV while docked.
