The PS2 was home to some fantastic games, but Kratos' adventures throughout Ancient Greece in God of War 1 and 2 are undoubtedly some of the most fondly remembered.
The killing machine has since turned his attention to being a good Dad in the series 2018 reboot and 2022's God of War Ragnarok, but rumours have persisted that a remaster of the classic titles would come at some point.
Sadly, we've not heard anything in some time, and the series' 20th anniversary feels like an ideal time to reveal a revisit to Ancient Greece but Sony has other ideas.
While fans had hoped the first trilogy of God of War games would get a new lick of paint, Sony has revealed its plans for the series in a new blog post and there's no remaster among them, at least not yet.
To celebrate two decades of Kratos being the angriest demigod in history, the Santa Monica Studio is handing out Dark Odyssey weapons and armour, inspired by God of War II's God Mode skin.
They'll be free for all players on console and PC on Thursday March 20, with the anniversary two days later, while Atreus and Freya will get fresh looks, too.
Before that, players can grab a bunch of free social media assets, while free PSN avatars and God of War items in the Steam Points Shop will also drop on March 20.
Fans in LA can visit Gallery Nucleus for a God of War art exhibition, while preorders start on Monday, March 17 for new merch.
"Featuring interviews from key developers, the God of War: 20th Anniversary Retrospective set brings together stories, insights, and art capturing an intimate, behind-the-scenes look into how the games came to be," the blog post reads.
Elsehwere there are 67 inches of World Serpent available with a giant plushy Jrmungandr, clothing, and vinyls. Both Norse mythology games are discounted as part of the Steam Spring Sale.
The series, which began on PS2 in 2005, stars Kratos, as he carves his way through the Greek pantheon in violent fashion. The original trilogy, and the unnumbered Ascension, as well as two PSP games, have all been ported to PS3 and Vita, while God of War 3 made its way to PS4.
