We recently covered how fans have spotted a rumoured leaked price for the next Nintendo Switch, but that's only part of the Switch 2 puzzle.
We've heard that the launch games could include Zelda remakes or remasters, a 3D Mario adventure, and we know Mario Kart is lined up, but for everything else, we're still waiting for Nintendo's big reveal on April 2.
The company will hold a Switch 2-centric Nintendo Direct, and while it'll confirm the price and capabilities, it should also give us a firm release date for the console we've been waiting years for.
And yet, as it so often does, the release date may have leaked already after one user was tipped off by a Hong Kong store.
We'll be honest, it reeks a little of "my mate's dad works at Nintendo" from the playground, but, with a pinch of salt in hand, let's unpack the latest rumour.
A post on Reddit (shared above by Switch 2 Stock on X) suggests that one store in Hong Kong will not be offering preorders until after the Nintendo Direct on April 2.
Apparently, that's so Nintendo can ensure there's enough stock so that anyone can walk into a store and buy a Switch 2, but one content creator, Jake Randall, has suggested that's not the case at all in the replies.
"Im sure thats true for that chain of shopsthey will not get access to preorders. However preorders will ONE HUNDRED PERCENT be happening. You can quote me on that."
It's a big 'if', then, but with Switch launching on a Thursday last time out, and one theory suggesting Switch 2 will follow the same pattern, that suggests it could be available on April 10, 17, 24 or even the day after the reveal!
The rumour also suggested the price will be around $450 (around 350) which still seems low, but Nintendo has been focusing on making the system affordable.
In an investor meeting earlier this month, Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo's president, had the following to say:
"We are aware that, in addition to how inflation is currently proceeding, the exchange rate environment has also changed significantly since around the time we launched Nintendo Switch in 2017.
"We also need to consider the price range that consumers expect for Nintendo products. We think a multifaceted consideration of these factors is needed when deciding on the price of a product. I cannot tell you a specific price for Nintendo Switch 2 at this time, but we are taking various factors into account.
"Currently, there are no plans to change the pricing of Nintendo Switch hardware."
