Nintendo Switch 2's Call of Duty 2025 leak means good and bad news for fans

Call of Duty Warzone and Black Ops 6 are in their second season, but eyes are turning to Call of Duty 2025 and there are some surprising developments on that front

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 players and Warzone fans can now dive into Season 2 Reloaded, and Season 3 is expected to bring back the legendary Verdankk map.

While some fans are annoyed about the price of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles skins, attention is starting to turn to the series' next annual entry.

There's little known about the upcoming title so far (we strangely know more about next year's entry), but one new report has suggested it'll be coming to PS4 and Xbox One, almost five years after they were succeeded by the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. It could also be being lined up for the Nintendo Switch 2, but some fans aren't pleased about it.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), CharlieIntel said that "Call of Duty 2025 could still release on PS4 and Xbox One, per sources. Supporting last-gen in 2025 is a wild decision, but the game is in development for the old consoles from what we've heard."

"This may be a reason as to why there can't be two big maps in Warzone at same time," they suggested, which has upset some fans that want Activision to cut ties with last generation consoles.

"I know there are players still on the old gen consoles but man12 year old hardware holding back progression of the game sucks," one commenter said.

The Switch 2 is tipped for a June release

"Studios having to support 12 year old hardware is bad for the industry and holds back the full potential for games," another added. "It's time to move on"

There's a good chance the game will strip features back for prior console generations, but some have suggested the game could be destined for the Nintendo Switch 2, which could end up being less powerful than PS5 and Xbox Series X, but still with similar capabilities to the PS4 or Xbox One.

Perhaps most worryingly, the need to support last-generation systems has slowed development of multiple maps in Call of Duty Warzone. Fans have long been crying out for new 'large-scale' maps, but it appears that process is trickier when running the game on hardware from 2013.
