Nintendo Switch 2 is, if you can believe it, a mere eight days away. The new console will finally launch on June 5, and it's expected to sell like hot cakes alongside Mario Kart World.

The Japanese manufacturer is unlikely to be sending review units out early, according to reports, but as some fans suspected, the system is already in the hands of at least one consumerand as far as we know, no bolt cutters were required.

It's not done them any good, in any case, with Nintendo's latest hardware essentially a very sleek-looking paperweight until launch since it needs a major firmware update to even allow usage.

Here's all we know.

As shared by longtime video game account Stealth40k, a Reddit user got their hands on the console nice and early.

In the short video clip. we can see the console as well as the two Joy-Con controllers, but the post was removed from Reddit for violating one of the community rules.

Nintendo will no doubt be looking to track down just who is responsible for its latest console being in a player's hands more than a week early, but it's also not giving much away.

As previously reported with regards to review units, the console is essentially useless without a day one patch that enables, well, everything.

Players won't be able to do anything without that update, including play any games.

Reddit commenters suggested that this is to ensure a staggered rollout of the new system, and that eventually the consoles will be able to power on and be used without such a big update, but that remains to be seen.

Others have joked that Nintendo's lawyers will be flying through the windows any minute to secure the console and extract it before anything leaks.
