PlayStation takes fight to Nintendo with State of Play on eve of Switch 2 launch

Sony is promising 40 minutes of "news and updates on must-play games" for PlayStation 5, right on the eve of Nintendo's Switch 2 launchhere's what we expect to see at State of Play

State of Play is back

Nintendo Switch 2 is just a day or two away, but Sony may not have got the memo about the biggest release of June..

That's because PlayStation has confirmed a last minute State of Play will be held tomorrow, June 4, right before Switch 2 is available for midnight launches.

With Microsoft's Xbox division holding its own showcase on Sunday as part of the week's Summer Game Fest event, that now only leaves Nintendo without an event of its ownalthough we'll let them off since it is launching a new system.

Here's what we know about Sony's event, and what we could see.

Sony confirmed via X (formerly Twitter) that its State of Play showcase will return on June 4 at 10PM UK time.

"Watch live for news and updates on must-play games coming to PS5," a statement explains.

"The show highlights a selection of great games from creators across the globe."

The event will run for more than 40 minutes, and be streamed on YouTube and Twitch, but what could we see?

We'd be very surprised if we don't get another bonkers Death Stranding 2 trailer since the game launches in June, but with Summer Game Fest just days away we could see Sony save some of its reveals for then.

There are plenty of titles the company could show for 2026 and beyond, though. We've not seen Wolverine, which is being developed by Insomniac Games, since it was first revealed, while Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Project was revealed a few months ago at The Game Awards.

We'll be covering the biggest news from the show here, so be sure to check back to Daily Star Gaming.
