Pokemon GO Friends List - 'Failed to get friends list' and adding friends not working

Failed to get friends list and several more Pokemon GO friends list errors are once again impacting players on iOS and Android.

Pokemon GO players appear to once again be suffering from the dreaded 'failed to get friends list' errors that do sometimes plague the game.

There are numerous reports of players either not being able to load friend lists, add new friends or perform any sort of in-game task that requires accessing a player's friends list.

These issues appear to be reappeared following the release of the games latest update.

Whilst it doesn't seem to be impacting everyone, it is impacting enough that we've seen more people accessing our previous post about the bug from 2019.

Somewhat annoyingly though, it doesn't appear as though the game's creators, or it's support account on twitter (Niantic Support), have acknowledged the latest bug.

Worse still for those of you new to the game, there is no quick fix.

As noted by several players and posts on Reddit, the best bet is to simply wait it out.

Keep playing for a few days and try to work past the glaring error and eventually, Niantic should release a fix.

It's by no means ideal, but it's better players know there's no fix than endlessly attempting to find one.

On the plus side, there is a brand new event starting soon which should keep you occupied without the need to call on friends.

From Friday, May 8, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Friday, May 15, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. local time, youll have access to the Throwback Challenge 2020: Johto Timed Research.

"Remember the adventures in Pokmon Gold and Pokmon Silver with us" Niantic's blog post wrote last week.

"Make Curveball Throws as a subtle callback to visiting the Whirl Islands, and catch a Water-type Pokmon in memory of the fateful encounter with the Shiny Gyarados at the Lake of Rage!

"Complete all eight sets of tasks in the Johto Timed Research to earn 10 Rare Candies and a reward encounter with a Ho-Oh that knows the event-exclusive attack Earthquake."

While the Throwback Challenge 2020: Johto Timed Research is available, you can look forward to the following features.

• Pokmon originally discovered in the Johto region, such as Dunsparce and Skarmory, will be appearing more frequently in the wild.
• Pokmon originally discovered in the Johto region will also be available to battle in raids.
• The following Pokmon will be hatching from 7 km Eggs: Chinchou, Yanma, Girafarig, Pineco, Dunsparce, Gligar, Shuckle, Skarmory, and Phanpy.
• In honor of Umbreon being chosen in the Pokmon of the Year vote as the number-one Pokmon originally discovered in the Johto region, Pikachu wearing Umbreon hats will be appearing in the wild!
• If youre lucky, you might find a Shiny Dunsparce!
• Event-exclusive Field Research tasks will reward encounters with Pokmon originally discovered in the Johto region.
• 2 Catch Stardust and 2 Raid Stardust bonuses will be active.
