Huge Rockstar game tipped for Switch 2 launch as GTA 6 wait goes on

Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2 has been tipped for a Switch 2 release as parent company Take-Two Interactive continues to push support for the new console

GTA 6 has reportedly in development for years, and won't launch for another year.

While we're still rewatching that long-awaited second trailer and replaying GTA 5 with the Enhanced version on PC, there might yet be more Rockstar Games fun to be had in the coming months.

Gamereactor has reported that earlier reports of Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to Nintendo Switch 2 could be correct after all, despite the developer not confirming anything as yet.

"Gamereactor has heard from sources close to Rockstar that the acclaimed Wild West open-world opus, considered one of the best video games ever, is not only on its way to Nintendo Switch 2, but could be coming to the new console as soon as later this year," the report explains.

The rumoured port of Red Dead Redemption 2, which launched in 2018, has been corroborated by other sources according to Gamereactor, and would mark a big coup for Nintendo.

Rockstar's open-world cowboy adventure is one of the best-looking games of the last decade, and putting it on a hybrid system you can take with you on the bus would be a great indication of the Switch 2's graphical chops, but that's not all.

Gamereactor is also reporting that an update dubbed the "next-gen upgrade patch" has been slated for some time soon.

The outlet says it would bring "the graphics and performance of Red Dead Redemption 2 up to date for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S."

The game is playable on current-generation systems, but this sounds like an upgrade akin to the GTA 5 PS5 and Xbox Series X|S one, which improved the resolution and frame rate, while also adding additional visual effects.

It's also on PC, having arrived there in 2019, but there's no mention of a potential Enhanced Edition like GTA 5's from earlier this year.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke to The Game Business following the company's earnings call yesterday, and was asked about the Switch 2.

"We feel really good about it. But it always remains to be seen. Were offering more on launch support than ever before for a Nintendo platform. Weve announced four titles for Switch 2. It remains to be seen how it does, but I am a big believer."

At the time of writing, Take-Two has confirmed NBA 2K, WWE 2K, Civilization 7, and Borderlands 4 will launch on Switch 2.
