SEGA announcement countdown to 'revolutionary' news: When is mysterious project revealed today?

SEGA is set to unveil something big today here's what we know (and don't know) about the 'revolutionary' announcement

SEGA announcement Update 1: Sega has today revealed the Game Gear Micro!

The mini version of the 1990 handheld, which we imagine was thought up off the back of the popularity of the Mega Drive, SNES and PlayStation Minis that were so ubiquitous some years back, will launch in Japan on October 6 for 4980 (that's about 45).

You can read all about the incoming device at the link above.

ORIGINAL STORY: The home of Sonic, Yakuza, the Total War franchise, Persona and many more much-loved series has a special announcement to make.

Though a series of rumours have been circulating the internet about an Xbox and Sega console collaboration have been disproven or at least batted down it's still likely an announcement to get excited about.

This new information is set to be revealed in the next issue of Japanese Famitsu magazine, and the good new is that mag should be hitting the shelves imminently.

Famitsu magazine is set to release on June 4, 2020 and given that Japan is eight hours ahead of the UK, that likely means we can expect to see the news in the morning (or at least, early in the day).

We'll update you as soon as we have more information.

But what will this announcement be?

"We have got the Famitsu magazine, and saw what is so-called "huge scoop", a key opinion leader in China explained according to industry analyst Daniel Ahmad.

"But we can say that the news is not the same as the rumour [Xbox and Sega are collaborating on a console] but it's indeed SEGA-related, and has nothing to do with Microsoft"

Previously, rumours were circulating that SEGA would be merging with Xbox Game Studios in some way, leading to the Xbox Series X taking on the SEGA branding in Japan (which would sort-of make sense, since the Xbox brand isn't particularly strong in the country).

Next-Gen Fighting Games

But, alas, that's likely not true.

Could the announcement be related to the latest reveal from the Total War series? Just yesterday, we saw the reveal of Total War Saga: Troy; a mix of history and mythology that sees the Trojans go toe-to-toe with the Greeks.

The game was given a August 13 release date on the Epic Games Store, and SEGA announced it will be free to keep for anyone who downloads it within the first 24 hours of release. How nice!

That said, we're hoping it's something related to Shin Megami Tensei V for Switch we haven't heard from that game for a long time, now...

We'll keep you updated as we hear more.
