The PlayStation 5 is still dominating this console generation, but while fans are able to download some huge titles this month through PlayStation Plus, those that don't have the console yet may wish they'd pulled the trigger soon.
That's because Sony dropped an update to the PlayStation Blog around midnight last night confirming that the price of the base PS5 Digital Edition will increase.
The console previously would have set you back 359.99 in the UK, but will now cost 389.99. It marks the second price climb since the console launched in 2020, with PS5 now costing 70 more in total thanks to a "backdrop of a challenging economic environment", according to SIE vice president of global marketing Isabelle Tomatis.
"With a backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates, SIE has made the tough decision to raise the recommended retail price (RRP) of the PlayStation 5 console in select markets in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Australia and New Zealand," the blog post explains.
It'd be fair to say responses to the post on X (formerly Twitter) above aren't particularly positive.
"Save yourself the trouble and build your PC instead," one said, while another joked "Buckle up Americas, you're next".
Australian gamers will see the PS5 with disc drive increase in price, too.
We reported last week that President Trump's tariffs had caused chaos for gaming companies in Japan, with Sony and Nintendo among the hardest hit despite the latter being about to launch the Nintendo Switch 2.
Still, there is a ray of sunshine amidst the doom and gloom. For one, the PS5 Pro will see its price stay the same (which is just as well as it sits at 699 already.
Sony's most powerful hardware doesn't come with a disc drive, but that peripheral (which was being targeted by scalpers not long ago) will actually see a price reduction.
We'd previously seen it selling for around 100, but it'll drop to 69.99 for UK gamers.
