You can now catch all 151 original Pokemon within Google here's how

If you're looking to do something more fun than work today, we've got you covered Google has a secret Pokemon Easter Egg that lets you use the search engine like a Pokedex

Pokemon: Catch all 151 original pocket monsters in Google game

Pokemon has arguably never been bigger (as shown by the furore over the new Destined Rivals TCG set), and even tech giant Google wants to celebrate our love of catching 'em all.

Tasking users with becoming a Pokemon master, the company's search engine has a secret Pokemon game that you can play just by searching the names of the first generation's Red and Blue 'mon.

Doing so brings up a sort of mini-Pokedex so you can snag them all, with hints offered if you're missing any. It's worth noting you'll need to do it on the mobile version, but hey, it gives you something to do while you wait for your Pack Stamina to replenish on Pokemon TCG Pocket, right?

How to play Pokemon on Google

This boxart certainly brings back some memories

On your iOS or Android device, search for a Pokemon's name (Pikachu is an obvious starting point), and then wait for the small Pokeball icon to appear in the bottom left (in my testing you may have to scroll for a split second for it to appear).

Tap the ball, and you'll catch the critter, which then shows the Pokedex in silhouette form to help you name a few.

Naturally, some are easier to find than others we never forgot about our beloved Charmander and its evolutions, but has anyone really been pining for Pinsir in the last few years?

"Keep testing your knowledge, and the superfans will be in for a surprise once theyve collected all of them," Michelle Chou, Entertainment Product Manager at Google said.

The news follows the announcement in recent weeks of LEGO Pokemon products planned for 2026, as well as confirmation last week that Pokemon Legends: Z-A will get a Switch 2 port (that looks much better than the Switch 1 version).

It's interesting that Google has limited the game to just the Kanto region's initial slate of creatures, but hey, here's hoping for Johto in the future.

Over on the Pokemon subreddit, fans have pointed out there are mechanics like the Master Ball (which guarantees a capture) but have noted some issues when signed into Google if you're not seeing the Pokeball, consider signing out and in again.

Reckon you can catch them all? I'll be digging into my classic Pokemon knowledge for the rest of the day, just try not to tell my boss.
