It's peak summer time, and I was late to the 'hot girl summer' preparation (by that, I mean staying hair-free all summer). Summer waxing or laser hair removal is a popular beauty routine for getting smooth skin, which requires at least a three-month window for a standard course of six sessions. However, I found a new hair removal gadget with the quickest result I've ever experienced.
The Ulike IPL Air 10 is a pain-free hair removal device designed for full body treatments including face and bikini lines, and there is no replacement head switching needed. One main feature that sets the difference apart from the competitors is the Sapphire Ice Cooling. The cool plates on the sides maintain a contact temperature of 18C so when the machine emits short pulses of light and heat to damage the hair follicles , it offers no sensation of burning.
In salon where laser treatments can cost anywhere from 500 to 1500 for six to ten sessions, this device is much more affordable and it is available on Amazon with 25% off. Priced at 299.99, the kit comes with a travel case, protective glasses and a mini razor.
I first tried it at the product launch event and was blown away by the Sapphire Ice Cooling feature. As a beauty journalist, I have used IPL devices in the past, and had experienced in-clinic hair removal treatments - the Ulike device offers the best comfort of all. There was no snap or tingle, which made the whole at-home treatment experience much more enjoyable.
With many brands banging on the drum of technology and personalisation, I prefer Ulike's simple approach - no app and no email required. I simply plugged in and turned on the device, and it's ready to use. For areas with coarse hair, it's best to use SHR mode (which stands for Super Hair Removal). Rather than delivering one intense burst of energy, the device releases multiple gentle pulses in quick succession.
In my very honest opinion, I have only reached for the Air 10 once and I used it on my armpits and legs. The result is not what I expected. Since using it, my hair has not grown back for weeks and that's unusual. For most at-home devices, you're looking for at least three sessions to see hair reductions. But the Ulike Air 10's result is much faster, the hair on my legs barely grew for months. Some areas were completely hairless.
I could have done a few more sessions to save myself from shaving, but I was impressed by the SHR mode. It glided on my skin smoothly and it blasted gentle pulses of light then turned into heat to weaken the follicles for slower hair growth.
I would love to see if there will be a cordless version in the future, as that would be helpful if I were to take it with me abroad.
