The perfect antidote to Britain's winter blues has been unveiled, and it's a heavenly island known as 'the Caribbean without the jetlag' where you can enjoy a pint for a mere 2.20. An index that ranks the best winter sun destinations considering factors such as temperature, sunshine hours, cost of a pint and meal for two, time difference, and rainfall has crowned Sal, Cape Verde's most tourist-friendly island, as the top choice.

Despite being a six-hour flight away, this Atlantic paradise boasts white sandy beaches, subtropical temperatures, and only a one-hour time difference with the UK. Winter temperatures hover between 24C and 25C from January to March, and holidaymakers can bask in approximately 10 hours of sunshine each day, according to easyJet's Winter Sun Index.

Foodies will also be delighted by the island's culinary offerings, which draw inspiration from Portuguese, African and Brazilian cuisines, with a meal for two setting you back around 30.

Hot on its heels is Egypt's Red Sea jewel, Hurghada, where winter temperatures range between 21C and 25C and pints are less than 2. This resort town offers almost constant sunshine, crystal-clear waters, and desert landscapes ripe for activities like quad biking or Jeep safaris.

The Canary Islands continue to be popular choices, with Gran Canaria and Lanzarote clinching third and fourth places respectively; Gran Canaria is famed for its golden beaches, while Lanzarote captivates with its striking black sands and volcanic landscapes.

Kevin Doyle, UK country manager for the airline, said: As temperatures at home begin to drop and the days get darker, now is the perfect time to book an escape to warmer climes.

Our network and package holidays offer a broad range of winter sun destinations across Europe and beyond from Sub-Saharan islands to Spanish peninsula cities.

Additional standout locations from the rankings feature destinations such as Agadir in Morocco, Djerba off Tunisia and Spain's Seville.

Agadir boasts winter peaks of 23C, almost nine hours of daily sunshine and minimal precipitation, whilst typically, dining for two costs 26 and a pint merely 1.75.

Djerba earned its spot on the list through its combination of heritage and tranquillity, with winter temperatures spanning from 16C to 18C and up to eight hours of sunshine each day.

The isle merges Mediterranean shoreline with Saharan character, featuring traditional marketplace lanes, palm groves and golden beaches, with dining for two priced around 26 and a pint costing just 1.30.

Seville, which holds the title of Europe's mildest city during winter months, ranks well for its graceful Moorish design and bustling urban atmosphere. Visitors can anticipate temperatures spanning 16C to 22C, roughly eight hours of sunshine and a pint priced at merely 2.20.

The city's squares, flamenco performances, and sun-drenched avenues make it ideal for those craving metropolitan warmth over coastal escapes.
