You can stay in an haunted house full of 'ghosts that smells like death' for 114 a night

The 'most haunted house in Australia' has guests who claim to have papers ripped from their hands, smelled sickening scents and heard unexplainable things while staying

Summer is over and were coming up on spooky season as Brits begin to switch on Halloween films and wrap up in jumpers.

But, some places in the world are thought to be more closely inhabited by departed spirits than others.

The UK is covered in so-called haunted places and even hotels can be plagued by the undead.

Earlier this year , The Adelphi in Liverpool warned tourists about their resident ghouls after reports emerged of punters being pushed or tripped up by rowdy spooks.

Renowned ghost hunter Robert Pulme said the place was overrun by the dead.

But, while Europe is well-known for all its ancient and haunted buildings there are some creepy places down under too.

Australias most haunted house doubles as a hotel and the owners son even said the property smells of death.

The Monte Cristo Homestead was purchased by Lawrence Ryans parents in the 1960s and hes lived there ever since surrounded by apparitions.

Lawrence told escape.com : Its not that we have more ghosts or more spirits, its that we have more activity.

You hear your name called out, but nobody is there, sometimes you smell smoke and theres no fire lit. Sometimes it smells like death.

He also claims that they would hear footsteps on a dilapidated balcony even though there was no wood laid as a floor to the space at the time.

And, the increasing number of encounters has attracted ghost hunters and paranormal hobbyists from around the world.

You can tour the homestead or even stay overnight for $195AUD (114).

The price includes a three course meal, an evening tour and breakfast.

But, Lawrence claims many people find the hauntings too much and leave in the middle of the night.

He commented: Weve found people sleeping in their car the next morning because they cant handle it in the house.

Even the local cats, about 14 of them, refuse to come inside the house.

Lawrence claims that when his parents first moved in they came downstairs to find their pet cat skinned and disembowelled on the kitchen floor

Were not sure wed dare to come inside either would you?

There are lots of stories behind the haunted house from the ghost of the possessive wive of the first owner to a maid who fell from the balcony.

Lawrence claims that anyone who is disrespectful to the ghosts in the house will feel sick by the end of the tour and need to leave.

And that hes seen the fear of God in peoples eyes as they encounter the spirits.

On TripAdvisor, one former guest said: Dinner and Ghost tour was amazing. Definitely haunted. Felt and heard things I cannot explain.

While another said: When I arrived I instantly got a pressure headache, nothing severe but enough to bother me.

I started up to the front of the house and when I walked in I could just feel something different and odd.

Walked into the dining room and was reading a cutout with information about the house on it when suddenly out of nowhere the map of the property I was holding being me got tugged on. As though someone tried to pull it out of my hands
