A new holiday index has dubbed a popular UK city as the worst place for a family staycation.
The study, conducted by Go Compare, ranked Newport in Wales at the bottom of the list for family-friendly holidays.
The research considered factors such as family-friendly accommodation, attractions suitable for kids, and hotel cost trends during term time and school holidays.
While Kent was crowned the best spot for a family getaway, Newport was deemed the least appealing due to its limited offering of just 72 family-suited hotels and 20 child-friendly attractions.
Following closely behind were two other Welsh cities, Cardiff and Swansea. Despite Cardiff's vibrant cultural scene, it fell short with only 70 family-friendly hotels and 85 kid-appropriate attractions.
Similarly, Swansea, known for its stunning beaches, may disappoint families seeking a city break with its mere 97 family-suitable hotels and 59 all-age attractions.
All three locations also saw a significant price hike of 47% during peak holiday periods. Scotland's Aberdeen and Glasgow are hot on their heels, also posting a whopping 31% rise in prices out of term time.
Go.Compare's travel expert Rhys Jones spilled the beans on the results, revealing that Kent's pole position was a bit of a shocker: "Kent taking the top spot in our staycation index is surprising as it's not often the first place that comes to mind when we think about holidaying in the UK."
"Destinations like Cornwall or the Lake District tend to be considered more. Despite this, Kent has quietly positioned itself as a fantastic choice for families, offering a range of accommodation and attraction options while remaining affordable."
