Waiting around the baggage reclaim can be a right pain when you're buzzing to start your holiday, especially if your bag decides to take a world tour on the carousel. It's frustrating to watch everyone else nick off with their luggage while you're still waiting.
But, hold up, there's a cheeky trick that could get your suitcase popping out first at your holiday spot. An airport worker has spilled the beans on how to make sure your gear is first off the plane. The tip? Check in your bags last, reports the Express.
This savvy move means your stuff will probably be chucked onto the plane last and yanked off first when you land. Thomas Lo Sciuto, who works the tarmac and gates at a US airport, dished out this advice on Quora: "Your best option is to be one of the last passengers to check your bags."
He continued: "Bags will always be loaded front to back on the bag carts, so if you check in last, your bags will be in the last bag cart, which will make them the last on the aircraft, and the first off the aircraft at your destination."
Thomas also reckons asking nicely to gate-check your bag is a solid plan for a speedy reunion. He said: "The best way to ensure your bag gets to you the quickest is to ask the counter agent very nicely if they will let you gate-check your bag.
"The downside of that method is that you will not be able to pack liquids or any other items that cannot go in a carry-on bag, as you will need to bring the bag with you through the security checkpoint and to the gate."
But there's a catch if you go for the gate-check gambit, you can't pack any liquids or other bits that aren't allowed in hand luggage, since you'll have to lug it through security and all the way to the gate.
The New York Post has revealed a nifty trick for ensuring your luggage is first off the carousel - simply nab a free "fragile" sticker from airport staff and whack it on your bag.
According to the outlet: "Often the fragile tagged luggage goes into the plane last and as a result, it comes onto the belt first.
"But if youre going to tag your luggage, make sure to leave one thing off your address. Opportunistic thieves will know that you are not at home and could try to burgle the property as a result."
However, they caution against one common luggage tag detail - your home address. They warn that crafty thieves could twig you're not at home and potentially target your property.
