SAS Who Dares Wins TV star Melvyn Downes has launched a blistering attack on Andrew who he called an arrogant, arrogant man.

Downes, 60, who served in the Army for 24 years and 12 in the SAS, said that he met Andrew, while he was serving as a soldier in the Staffordshire Regiment. The then Prince Andrew was the regiments Honorary Colonel in Chief up until 2007 when it was merged into the Mercian Regiment.

Downes posted on Facebook: Andrew was an arrogant, ignorant man. When he came to inspect our regiment he ignored the soldiers and couldnt wait to get away to the officers' mess for champagne. We all lost total respect for him back then .glad our King let the law take its course. Once a n**** always a n****.

The then Prince Andrew was the regiments Honorary Colonel in Chief and acted arrogantly to soldiers

Another ex-soldier wrote: Completely opposite to HM The Queen and a lot of Royals. Had lunch with William before an exercise on Salisbury Plain sound as a pound and nice down to earth bloke.

Downess post was viewed by more than 6,500 followers and attracted over 1,500 comments, with many from ex-soldiers with similar experiences after meeting Andrew.

One former Admiral told the Daily Star Sunday that Andrew had clear entitlement issues.

He said: I was at Dartmouth Naval College with Andrew and we played hockey together. He was a pretty arrogant individual and he hadnt changed when we served on the same ship a couple of years later.

On his first day on board he met the captain and said Im Prince Andrew - but you can call me Andrew.

The captain responded: Im the captain of this ship and you can call me sir.

He was rude to the mess stewards and was hauled over the coals. He was , though, a very capable helicopter pilot and did well in the Falklands but arrogance was part of his character.

He always behaved as if the rules never really applied to him. Im not surprised at all that hes in hot water."

Andrew was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of misconduct in public office, bringing his former role as the UK's specia representative for international trade and investment into focus. He denies any wrongdoing.
