Antiques Roadshow young collector 'thanks dad' after learning true value of Nintendo game

A little girl on BBC series Antiques Roadshow was left stunned after having some 80s Nintendo games valued by an expert and discovering they were worth thousands

A young collector on Antiques Roadshow was left stunned after finding out her dad had gifted her "iconic" Nintendo games that are worth thousands.

In the US version of the show, which airs on PBS, a schoolgirl was excited to hear the value of boxed and sealed Super Mario Brothers 3 and Double Dragon games for a Nintendo Entertainment System. She had been gifted them by her dad and wanted to find out how much they're really worth.

The young collector explained: "These two games for a Nintendo gaming system, and my dad gave these to me. They were two games from the 1980s and somebody gave them to him and he already had the games, so he didn't open them."

The expert then praised the little girl for "knowing what's going on" as she brought the games on the US version of the show to have them valued. He added: "The Nintendo Entertainment System revolutionised video games when it was first introduced in 1983. You have some of the most iconic games for the NES."

But luckily, she came at the right time as the expert continued: "If you came to Antiques Roadshow five years ago, we wouldn't be here today. I love that face. The collectible video game market really exploded 2019 into 2020. The market is a little unsteady."

He asked the youngster if she knew the value of the games today - but she didn't know and guessed a modest $100. However, they were worth much more than that.

"In their ungraded just factory sealed condition, The Super Mario Brothers 3 would be $1,000 to $2000," the expert explained. "Now, this is where you're really going to thank your dad, the Double Dragon. This is easily a $2,000 to $3000 game." But she advised that she could sell the pair together at auction for $3,000 to $5,000.

The school girl was left stunned at the news as she said: "Oh my gosh, that's a lot. That's surprising. Thank you, Dad."
