BBC's filthiest drama features woman who just 'loves her body and loves having sex'

Marisa Abela, who plays Industry's main character, Yasmin Kara-Hanani, opened up about how it was important for her role on the BBC1 drama to have 'surety with her sexuality'

Industry: BBC releases trailer for second series

BBC drama, Industry, known as one of TV's sexiest shows, returned to screens on Monday evening (September 26) with more steamy scenes set to air over the coming episodes.


The series' sex siren, Yasmin Kara-Hanani, played by Marisa Abela, is the main character in the story set around the world of high finance.


Marisa, 25, opened up about her reasons for taking on the role of Yasmin citing the fact she is an investment banker who is unashamed of her sexual appetite.

She said: She loves her body, she loves having sex, she loves the way people are attracted to her. And that just turns her on, in every aspect of that phrase.

"I thought, as a sort of a provocation point, why dont we just go for that?

Women struggle with their sexuality and sensuality, and there are so many amazing television series and books that help us understand that. But what if, just once, with this character, that is not the issue?

Speaking to W Magazine, Marisa said Yasmin was interesting because, while she wasnt the most confident in the office, she made up for it in the bedroom.


She said: Yasmin is very unsure of herself at work unsure of how to navigate these relationships with people she might not otherwise have ever met in her life.

Rather than having this constantly terrified, bird-like girl, there needed to be a real surety with her sexuality.

I thought it would be really exciting to see this young woman not questioning whether anyone thought she was sad about the way she looked. How exciting, you know?

Industry, which first aired on BBC2, became one of the most talked-about shows in 2020 and has since made the move to BBC1.

The drama follows a group of bankers who are all trying to ascend the career ladder, while also enjoying hedonistic delights such as sex and drugs.
