Brain cancer patient says Im on my knees begging in plea to Andy Burnham

The Commonwealth Games swimmer broke down in tears in an emotional episode of BBC Breakfast

Archie Goodburn makes tearful appeal for brain cancer funding

Archie Goodburn issued an emotional plea to Andy Burnham live on BBC Breakfast.

The swimmer recently competed in the Commonwealth Games, just two years after being diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour.

Archie appeared on Tuesday's (August 4) edition of BBC Breakfast alongside presenters Sally Nugent and Jon Kay.

The sportsman opened up to the presenting duo on the unforgettable moment he finished seventh in the mens 50m breaststroke final in Glasgow.

During the emotional interview, he said: It feels like a real combination of the past two years and a real journey of highs and lows.

But Im really proud to have been there and it was an honour to compete in such a fantastic and supportive crowd and see the support. It's been really touching and inspiring.

The star also used the moment as an opportunity to spread awareness and call for action on a disease that remains the biggest cancer killer of those under the age of forty in the UK.

He urged the Prime Minister to intervene as he insisted that there isnt enough brain cancer funding.

Archie started shaking and broke down in tears as he begged the Prime Minister to establish a national brain cancer lead as he explained that it would give many people in a similar situation a "chance to fight for their lives".

The 25-year-old highlighted how a number of countries overseas have already established clinical trials and it's "unfair and unjust" that the UK are yet to start.

With tears streaming down his face, he said: "I'm on my knees begging for not just my own life but those of my best friends and those who are affected and the families around the country."

He added that the situation "has to change" and that the "suffering is unbearable."

He acknowledged that the Rare Cancers Bill is a "step in the right direction" but insisted that it's not going to be enough to make big changes.
