The Daily Star: News with a Wink

Corrie icon Beverley Callard makes defiant statement ahead of return to I'm A Celeb

Coronation Street icon Beverley Callard has spoken out about her return to I'm A Celebrity. The actress has teased she wasn't keen to let her age stop her from giving it her all in camp in South Africa.

Beverley Callard has promised fans she will wow them on the new series of Im A Celebrity. The Coronation Street legend agreed to return to the ITV show for the latest All Stars series in South Africa. Despite being in her late 60s, she was convinced she could win. In a new trailer for the series, she says: Im 68 years old, but believe me, Im ready for battle.

Beverley filmed the series in South Africa late last year before her cancer diagnosis.. The actress, famed for playing gobby Liz McDonald, loved going back to the show five years after her first stint in 2020.

She said: My first experience of Im A Celebrity was in 2020 in Wales in the castle. My bedroom was minus one degree. After the first two days in the castle, we did not have a shower. We were feral. I said yes again because, who gets offered a chance a lifetime? I just thought, I cant say no. I truly loved it. We all laughed so much. We got on so well. The trials were so much harder than I thought they would be, but it was great.

Beverley made a sensational return to the spotlight yesterday at the shows glitzy launch party. She joined a raft of other contestants at the Ham Yard Hotel in central London. As she arrived in the capital, she said: The hotel is completely amazing. We got from one extreme to another in my job. Im going to be brave. Im feeling more nervous now were here. But Im going to be very brave. In a message of defiance, she added: Its International Women's Day, so f*** cancer.
