The Crystal Maze star with highest-ever score still never received prize 30 years on

The Crystal Maze was a huge hit in the 90s but one contestant still has a bone to pick with the iconic show as he never received his prize despite winning the show's highest score

The Crystal Maze was a huge hit in the 1990s and even made a return to screens a few years back. Now, it is marking its 35th anniversary - but one winner is still shockingly yet to receive their prize.

Series winner Chris Tait has now lifted the lid on the 90s favourite as he explains what really happened post-show and what it was like to work with its famous host. Chris, 54, and his team earned the joint-highest score in the show's history, earning 10/13 of the giant Swarovski crystals, but he unfortunately "never actually got his prize".

His episode was aired in 1994, but he has unfortunately never been compensated for his team's efforts, as after his group won a dog sledding holiday in Finland, it was revealed that the trip "wasnt all paid for" and would have cost "hundreds in add-ons".

In collaboration with Spin Genies AR Treasure Quest launch, Chris opened up about his time on the show and his disappointment in never getting his well-earned prize. He shared: "I never actually got my prize.

"We won a dog sledding holiday in Finland, just for the six contestants, but it wasnt all paid for and it was gonna cost me hundreds to go for all the add-ons so I never got a prize. I heard only four of our six team went, they were the London ones as the holiday started in London and you had to pay for your own travel, as well as food while away and lots of other things."

When asked how his interactions with presenter of the show Ed Tudor Pole were, he shared that it was "amazing" when looking back. Chris explained: "I didnt meet him 'til cameras were rolling, I knew who he was from his music career and was star-struck, others didnt have a clue.

"He kept himself to himself between takes etc but was life and soul at the wrap up party and was a great host. At the time, I was in a band and we spoke a lot about the music business and he gave me advice and tips which was amazing looking back."

The quirky gameshow first aired in 1990 before coming to an end in 1995, it since returned to screens in 2017 until 2020 and was hosted by comedian Richard Ayoade.
