EastEnders icon to 'split' from husband a year after romantic wedding

EastEnders viewers are convinced an affair is on the cards for one iconic couple

Eastenders: Lauren Branning gives birth to baby Jimmy

EastEnders' Lauren Beale seems to be getting closer to Mark Fowler, despite being wed to childhood sweetheart Peter.

Since bad boy Mark (Stephen Aaron-Sipple) made his return to Albert Square following a 10-year absence, he has managed to get under Lauren's (Jacqueline Jossa) skin, particularly after nicking one of her motors.

However, Lauren is frantically attempting to prove to her dad, Max Branning (Jake Wood), that she's got what it takes to buy and flog high-end cars for a tidy profit. Should Lauren shift 80,000 worth of motors in a month, Max will hand over half the business to her.

Keen to offload cars swiftly, Lauren has drawn the Mitchells into the fold to assist, with Phil (Steve McFadden) agreeing to fix up the vehicles before they're sold on.

Yet Phil delegated the responsibility and business arrangement to his nephew, Mark, which means Lauren now works alongside Mark - and Peter (Thomas Law) remains in the dark, reports OK!.

During Tuesday's visit to Albert Square (April 21), Mark examined one of Lauren's fresh vintage motors and confirmed she couldn't flog it, meaning she'd lost her cash.

Mark took matters into his own hands and arranged for dodgy car dealer Ray to meet him under false pretenses, knowing full well that he had conned Lauren.

When Ray turned up at the gym, Mark brought him into the office where Lauren was waiting. She insisted on getting her money back as the motor he'd sold her wasn't as advertised.

When Ray declined to give her a refund, Mark swiftly intervened, claiming to be Lauren's boyfriend and stating he wouldn't tolerate anyone conning the woman he adored.

"You're breaking up the greatest love story ever told here," Mark informed Ray, while Lauren persistently told him to keep out of it.

Lauren later alleged that Mark's fib about them being a couple was the "least believable" thing he told Ray as she returned home to her husband, Peter, and their two children.

Could Mark and Lauren embark on an affair and trigger her split from Peter after just one year of wedded bliss?

EastEnders fans have since taken to social media in droves, predicting that Lauren and Mark will have an affair, with one viewer posting: "Mark and Lauren, guess what happens next. #EastEnders."

A second commented: "Oh, Lauren is smitten with Mark. She'll end up in bed with him sooner rather than later. #Eastenders", while a third added: "I bet Lauren gets with Mark #EastEnders."

"A Mark and Lauren = AFFAIR and who wouldn't... #eastenders", exclaimed one fan, while another pleaded: "Please put Mark and Lauren together #EastEnders."
