EastEnders issue Stacey Slater update and fans are heartbroken for Jean

EastEnders viewers have been left confused as Jean Slater faces homelessness

EastEnders: Kat tells Stacey she sent Alfie away to earn money

EastEnders icon Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) is experiencing financial despair as the risk of homelessness draws closer, and fans are not happy with her daughter, Stacey (Lacey Turner).

Earlier this week, with cleaner Jean continuing to struggle financially, her landlady, Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal), confronted her about the three months' rent she had failed to pay.

But rather than solving the problem, the conversation quickly spiraled, with Eve (Heather Peace) jumping to Jean's defense and Jean hastily leaving the conversation. Is Jean about to be evicted from her home?

Already dealing with money troubles, Jean has also been left increasingly concerned about her "skint" granddaughter Lily Slater (Lillia Turner) after the teenager got caught up in the violent attack on Joel Marshall (Max Murray).

"Stacey is trusting me with her daughter; she is relying on me to keep her safe," Jean told Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) on Tuesday (August 11).

Later, the conversation turned to Stacey again as Jean confronted young mum Lily about spending time with ex-convict Joel.

"Your mum is trusting me to look after you, I've not always been a trustworthy person, I know that", Jean admitted.

"Stacey is the only person in the whole world who has faith in me being able to do the big, important things, I can't let her down". But why isn't Stacey supporting her family more?

In 2025, Stacey suffered the death of her ex-husband Martin Fowler (James Bye), only minutes after their romantic reunion.

Months later, Stacey received an insurance policy from Martin and used it to buy The Queen Vic for her cousin Kat as an investment.

After much deliberation about her future without Martin, a struggling Stacey waved goodbye to Walford with her youngest children, Arthur and Hope, and headed for a new life in Brazil, where she works at her brother Sean Slater's (Robert Kazinsky) restaurant.

In October 2025, Stacey left behind her mum, Jean, her eldest daughter, Lily, and granddaughter, Charli, knowing the wider Slater family would look after them.

Although Jean doesn't want to let her only daughter down, her current money troubles have left EastEnders fans convinced that Stacey is not providing financial help for her, Lily, and Charli, despite her new job abroad and investment in The Queen Vic.

On Reddit, one EastEnders pointed out: "Stacey gave Kat and Alfie all of Martin's money, ran off to Brazil and left her mum, daughter and granddaughter totally skint?"

A second asked: "I thought Stacey was taking a wage out of the Vic?""

"Wheres all that money Stacey had? Surely she sent her mum some considering she left her child and grandchild with Jean #eastenders", a third chimed in on X.

Another echoed the sentiment: "Jean should be getting benefits or why isn't Stacey contributing from Brazil when Lily has a little girl at home? #EastEnders."

"How is Jean skint? The Slaters have 3 businesses! Surely Kat could help them, considering Stacey gave them money for the pub. #EastEnders", pointed out one fan.
