The feud between Caleb Milligan (Will Ash) and Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) is continuing to escalate in Emmerdale, as we see Caleb try to frame Joe for attacking Billy (Jay Kontzle) and leaving him for dead, despite him knowing full well that the real attacker was Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill).
The pair have been at loggerheads since Joe stole Calebs kidney, which resulted in the limo crash that killed Amy, Leyla, and Susie. It seemed like they had called a truce, but after Joe decided to interfere with Calebs counterfeit goods operation at the Depot, he decided to declare war.
In case you arent sure how the pair are related, heres a quick Emmerdale history lesson Joe is the son of the late Chris Tate and Rachel Hughes, and was delivered by his dads ex-wife Kathy.
His dad then went on to marry Charity Dingle and have a son, Noah, but he died before his birth and Noah was born in prison after Chris framed Charity for murder, as revenge for her affair with Cain Dingle (her cousin, and Calebs brother.)
Caleb is Chriss secret brother, the product of an affair between Frank Tate (husband of Kim Tate) and Faith Dingle (mother of Cain and Chas Dingle). Caleb was adopted, and nobody knew about his existence until 2022, when he appeared in the Dales. So hes technically Joes uncle, but theyre connected in more ways than one
Will Ash, who plays Caleb, says that his character plans to destroy Joe: He realises that hes not going to be able to kill him, but that he can just ruin his life.
And so thats what he tries to do with his relationship with Dawn.
Caleb frames Joe for attacking his fiance Dawns ex-husband Billy, in a bid to ruin what he loves most. He sees the happiness he has there [with Dawn] and he wants to just kind of decimate that.
Despite starting off as a villain, Caleb seemed to have been a reformed character until now and Will says its fun exploring his darker side again. Its always fun to play that stuff thats a bit more complex," he said.
If it gets kind of quite comfortable and everythings plain sailing well then its not quite as fun to do.
Will says that with Caleb and Joe, the gloves are off: Itll probably end up being war again.
