Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) has rarely been out of trouble since he made his first appearance in Emmerdale last year, and hes now been outed as Billy Fletchers attacker.
In recent episodes we saw Billy (Jay Kontzle) left for dead in the depot, with his attacker thought to be his love rival Joe Tate. Everyone thinks Joe is responsible, even his fiancee Dawn, but the truth is, he was attacked by Kev.
Chris Coghill says: Billy is just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Kev thinks Ive just given him a little love tap just to stop him in his tracks but its a bit more serious than than that
Explaining how Kev ended up getting himself in this situation, actor Chris Coghill says: [Steve, played by Jason Done] heads up to the depot for one last job [Kev] follows him to stop him.
Kevs mysterious mate Steve had been living alongside him, Charles the vicar and his mum Claudette but Claudette threw him out and tried to pay him off to leave Kev alone after hed been causing chaos.
Chris explains that Kev really didnt mean to hurt Billy as much as he did: Kevs trying not to hurt people anymore, and it is on his conscience. He feels bad about the attack, and when Billy does eventually recover and get out of hospital, Kev becomes convinced that he knows the truth:
Its something that Billy says that makes Kev think that he already knows and he apologises to him and sort of says look you know, you get it, you understand it. Youve been in prison, these things happen, Ill make it up to you. Chris joked: Whats a love tap between friends?
Unfortunately for Kev, its not just Billy and Steve who know the truth. Caleb Milligan, who runs the depot where the attack happened, watches it all unravel on CCTV. Seeing it as an opportunity to frame his nephew, Joe Tate, Caleb decides to erase the footage and use it against Kev.
Will Ash who plays Caleb says: Ive seen the CCTV, and then seen that its him [Kev] thats done it but I wipe the CCTV so that I can point the finger at Joe. Chris says things start to spiral as Calebs wife Ruby sticks her oar in.
Ruby uses the footage to blackmail Kev into doing what she wants, but that may not be the best idea
Will says: I think they dont know how to handle him [Kev], like most people in the village. Hes such a loose cannon you just dont know what youre going to get from him. I think certainly Ruby thinks she could probably outmaneuver him, and she thinks she has done that.
