ITV presenter Kate Garraway found herself in a tense clash with an MP.
The 59-year-old star was joined by Ranvir Singh to host the latest edition of Good Morning Britain on Friday (August 14).
During the live show, the hosts discussed the UK's record-breaking temperatures, the train derailment in East Sussex, and Nigel Farage winning the Clacton by-election.
The Reform UK leader got 22,239 votes, while Count Binface came second with 9,455 votes. The contest was triggered when Farage resigned as an MP last month, triggering a by-election he said he would stand in.
Kate and Ranvir asked Reform UK MP Richard Tice about Farage's decision not to attend the result declaration in person, after the party claimed that the police advised against it, reports the Mirror.
"Can you tell us what it is that Essex Police told Reform UK about what the issue might have been for Nigel Farage at the Clacton count overnight, and why he had to stay away?" Ranvir asked.
"He stayed away because his security team were concerned about the ability to keep him safe and secure, and their job, and their judgement, and our trust in them, is much greater, in the nicest possible way, than it is in anybody else giving advice," Tice replied.
Ranvir went on: "So, you're saying that Essex police didn't tell Nigel Farage to stay away?"
Kate later added: "So, presumably, there was then a conversation with security advisors. What we understand, and we've been told, is that Essex police didn't tell anybody not to go. So, I guess we're trying to work out what's in the mind and the level of concern of those around him, aren't we, and where the information came from."
A frustrated Tice then said: "Seriously, I think you need to get a grip. I'm talking about Nigel's safety and security and remaining alive, and you're playing on words by different people who might be giving advice."
He added: "I just gently repeat...," before Ranvir interjected: "Sorry, sorry, just to be clear. Sorry, I mean, we can move on."
The host noted that it was a Reform UK spokesperson who told reporters that the Essex police had told Farage to stay away because of a "credible threat", leading them to try and clarify whether that was the case.
Tice went on to fume: "You're wasting this interview, right, on a matter which is less relevant than the result."
Kate then said: "I feel the safety of Nigel Farage is relevant and understanding why he didn't come is relevant," as Tice continued to express his point of view.
He concluded: "Honestly, I find it astonishing that you're questioning the judgement of our security team."
The tense interview led to many viewer complaints on social media, while others praised the hosts for their line of questioning.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 6am
