In 2019, former Blue Peter presenter Peter Duncan was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
At the time, he was offered a prostatectomy, an invasive surgery where the prostate is removed. However, it could result in life-changing side effects for patients.
Admitting his instincts 'kicked in', the 72-year-old looked for alternative treatment and spoke to another doctor who offered focal therapy.
During Thursday's Good Morning Britain (August 6), Peter spoke to ITV's Adil Ray and Kate Garraway about the less invasive treatment he received.
However, he was only eligible for the procedure due to where he lived, which is something that Peter and those at Prostate Cancer UK City are trying to get changed, reports the Mirror.
Focal therapy is something that can be done via ultrasound and targets particular cells, rather than those that are unnecessary and could cause issues further down for the patient.
Speaking about the treatment being available to those in certain postcodes, Keith Morgan, from Prostate Cancer UK City, called the situation 'frustrating'.
At present, only 1,000 individuals can access the therapy. Keith expressed that there is a desire for a universal rollout of the treatment to patients, regardless of their location.
Recently, the government pledged up to 2.8m to broaden the provision of focal therapy by establishing several new centres.
Speaking about it being available to him, Peter admitted he was 'lucky' to live in an area where it was accessible.
He told the hosts that while he appreciates the government's current stance on the issue, he would like them to go further and ensure it becomes accessible to everyone.
As the interview came to a close, Adil praised how well Peter looked, commenting: "I have to say, youre like one of our heroes, and you still look so young!"
During their conversation, ITV viewers learnt that Peter still undergoes regular testing following the treatment.
In a statement, Health Innovation and Safety Minister Preet Kaur Gill said: "Everyone deserves access to the best possible treatment" adding that the government were dedicated to "making that a reality".
Good Morning Britain is available to watch on ITV weekdays from 6am.
