Joe Thomas says he's keen to star in the Inbetweeners reboot.
The iconic E4 comedy is set for a hotly-anticipated return next year as creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley announced they'd signed a new deal with production company Banijay. The pair said it's "incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends)."
And Joe, who played lovestruck Simon Cooper in The Inbetweeners, says he's up for reprising his role in a future reboot. Speaking to The Sun on behalf of Quizlet, Joe said: "I feel enormously close to all those people and, obviously, I love spending time with them.
"If there was an opportunity to spend more time with them in any capacity, I'd love that that's pretty much all I can say." However, he noted that a new series would probably look very different to the sitcom that we know and love.
He explained: "The Inbetweeners is full of characters who are delusional to a large extent. When you get older, your delusions fall away, you look at life as it is. It means you get into less stupid situations I suppose, also the challenges get bigger; you can make larger mistakes when you get older."
Joe said he trusts Iain and Damon's writing and says the show is a "brilliantly written comedy" despite its "filthy language". The star said if the show came back he would "have faith" in the pair and that he's a "follow the people person".
Inbetweeners bosses Iain Morris and Damon Beesley confirmed that they're planning to bring back the show's iconic characters Will (Simon Bird), Simon (Joe), Jay (James Buckley) and Neil (Blake Harrison). Banijay's chief executive Patrick Holland said he was "delighted to pick up the conversation about the future of The Inbetweeners with them."
He added: "They have an infectious creative vision for the brand which will resonate with audiences old and new." The deal paves the way for more Inbetweeners action across various platforms, including TV, film and stage.
Last year, Thomas said he and the Inbetweeners boys are still close friends and that he would "jump at the chance" to work with them again. "We're all still around," he said. "We're all still in each other's lives. We all still like each other. And if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it."
Joe and James have also just launched their own podcast, Joe and James Fact Up. Announcing the new pod, the pair wrote: "New Podcast Friends! Joe & James Fact Up. Check out @joeandjamespod NOW on @spotifyuk or where ever you like to listen to your podcasts."
The Inbetweeners originally aired from 2008 to 2010. It became a cultural phenomenon that spawned two films in 2011 and 2014.
