Kelvin Fletcher marked an emotional milestone with his family following a heartbreaking moment on Fletcher's Family Farm.

The former Emmerdale actor and his wife Liz have been chronicling the ups and downs of managing their 120-acre Cheshire farm, and it's far from straightforward but fans will be pleased to know that ITV has confirmed two further series of the hit show are in the pipeline, with series five and six already commissioned.

During the latest repeat, Kelvin and Liz were grappling with the difficulty of their cow Ruby refusing to bond with her calf, which Marnie had named Ray.

They were forced to bottle-feed the calf as Ruby persistently kicked him away, something Kelvin described as "heartbreaking".

However, matters took an emotional turn in Monday night's episode when Ruby and Ray finally bonded, reports the Daily Mirror.

"Well, this is a big, big step forward," he told his wife. "She's out of the crush. She's allowing the calf to suckle."

Despite believing Ruby and Ray would never connect, Kelvin confessed he had always remained optimistic.

"It is melting my heart. That I mean, that is the ideal. That's what you want to see," Kelvin emotionally said.

Following the birth, Kelvin and Liz had been bringing Ruby into the crush three times daily to enable her calf to nurse.

"This is a big moment, isn't it? It's a real kind of transformation. Out onto the grass, and we'll just keep our eyes on her, and hopefully, that bond will just continue to grow and deepen."

It proved an emotional milestone for Kelvin as he considered the achievement, "I never thought we'd see this day. Turning them out together is such a special moment for us, and another notch on our farming belt.

"We've herded the kids up, too, to share this special moment."

He added, "That's it, guys, all the cows are outside. What a sight."

The emotional moment comes after the couple reflected on life on the farm and where they dream of being.

"I'm committed that this is the right thing for us," Kelvin said. "We're absolutely on the right path. There's no question that we just got to absolutely embrace it and be in the moment, be present."

Despite his contentment on the farm, Kelvin did let slip a longer-term dream. "I would like a ranch in America one day," he admitted as Liz replied with a smile: "I mean, I'd like to be in the Bahamas, but one step at a time."
