Fans of The Last Of Us have been told what to expect from the third season. The second season has aired its finale, which included a major cliffhanger for Bella Ramsey's character Ellie just weeks after Joel's heartbreaking death.
After a dramatic season, the final episode saw Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) shoot Jesse (Young Mazino) dead. She then aimed at Ellie however after a shot was fired, the screen went to black.
The point of view then switched to Abby's back in Seattle on "Day One". It suggests a big change for season three and show bosses have admitted viewers may not see the likes of Ellie on screen as much in season three.
Speaking ahead of the finale, showrunner Craig Mazin said, via Variety: "Even if I thought I knew now exactly how it was going to go, I'm experienced enough to know that two weeks from now we may have a different idea of hot it should go.
"All I can say is we haven't seen the last of Kaitlyn Dever and we haven't seen the last of Bella Ramsey, and we haven't seen the last of Isabela Merced (Dina), and we haven't seen the last of a lot of people who are currently dead in the story."
It was also confirmed that the next season will answer questions that were floating around the season, such as to do with the WLF and Seraphites war.
Craig said: "Those questions are correct and will be answered. How did that war start? Why? How did the Seraphites start? Who is [their] prophet? What happened to her? What does Isaac want? What's happening at the end of Episode 7? What is this explosion? All of it will become clear."
Meanwhile, Bella said they "expect" their presence to be smaller in the third season.
"I think that I'm going to be there, but not a whole bunch," they told Variety.
Due to flashback scenes, stars of the show whose characters have been killed off do make a return to screens.
Pedro Pascal's Joel was brutally killed early on in season two, but that doesn't mean he might not make an appearance in season three.
The second season also featured a flashback episode with introduced a new character not seen in the games on which the show is based, Joel's dad.
Showrunner Neil Druckmann said: "I wouldn't have guessed we would have a short story about Joel's dad before we wrote the season, so there you go. You can't predict these things."
