Love Island fans say ITV messed up after spotting 'major problem' with final

Love Island fans have hit out at show producers saying the real winner missed out

Love Island fans have slammed show producers for ruining the current series and insisted the 'real winner' was robbed as a consequence.

ITV's reality dating programme marked the grand finale of its 13th series on Monday night (July 27). Maya Jama returned to present the live show directly from the villa as she revealed this year's champions.

OG Islander Lorenzo Alessi and Casa bombshell Julia Majchrzak were runaway favourites heading into the finale. They were eventually crowned winners and secured themselves a slice of the 50,000 prize pot.

Both were larger-than-life characters who proved enormously popular with the loyal audience and predictably emerged victorious. Nevertheless, some believe their only genuine challenger who might have sparked an upset had already departed the villa amid contentious scenes.

This was Ellie Chadwick, lovingly nicknamed by supporters as 'Queen of Scotland'. She opted to quit her stint in the villa and stormed out after Finley Maddock, whom she was paired with, was eliminated by fellow Islanders, reports OK!

Some fans reckon this ruined the series. One posted on Love Island's subreddit: "The producers screwed up big time by giving the Islanders the power to vote out Finley, knowing that it would risk Ellie walking out.

"Ellie was tipped to win throughout the entire series. Yes, Finley was out of order with how he treated Elicia but people have selective memory in there. His conduct was nowhere near as appalling as Kavan's or Simba's in Casa, yet they are the ones who made it to the final. The recency bias is obvious. I think the programme went even further downhill with Ellie departing."

They added: "I don't think Jasmine and Kavan deserved to reach the final ahead of Ellie and Finley. Jasmine admitted herself that she's frightened to speak because she feels like she is irritating Kav which is a red flag. She genuinely altered her personality for him in there which was awful to witness."

One person confessed: "Agreed. I stopped watching when Ellie left. It was a huge error to let them vote Fin (and by default her) out."

Another responded, expressing a similar sentiment: "Whether the other couples that are in the final deserves it or not aside, I think major problem with dumping Ellie and Fin is it basically killed all the suspense of who is going to win.... Ellie is the only person in there that could rival Lorenzo popularity with the public."

However, others, while disappointed to see Ellie depart, backed her choice, as one stated: "She left very popular with the Islanders and public - and didn't have to deal with all the drama of the last week. She won in my eyes!" Another person responded: "Yes at least I'm glad she didn't have to go through watching Fin in the Grafties."

Meanwhile, one individual asserted: "Ellie is fineeee the public loved her, she can do anything she wants with her platform and if Finley doesn't behave he is going to miss out, I hope he knows that!"

Love Island is streaming on ITVX.
