A Love Island star has disclosed the heartbreaking final text they sent to Caroline Flack just days before her death.
Prime Video has today (Sunday, July 26) released a devastating two-part documentary entitled "The Curse of Love Island". Examining tragedies that left the nation reeling, the programme investigates the "highs and lows" of reality television and the challenges faced after the show.
Featuring testimonies from former participants alongside industry experts, the documentary is available to stream in its entirety as it delves into three prominent and tragic deaths - Caroline Flack, Mike Thalassitis and Sophie Gradon.
An official synopsis states: "Through the stories of former contestants Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis, who died by suicide within two years of each other, The Curse of Love Island examines the impact of reality TV fame in the social media age.
"Featuring contributions from fellow contestants, industry insiders and close friends, the series explores the highs and lows of reality TV, media scrutiny, online abuse, mental health and the pressures of life in the public eye.", reports OK!.
Within the documentary, former participant Malin Andersson discussed her experience on the programme, when she featured in 2016 during Season 2, alongside her battles with her newfound celebrity status.
The personality also disclosed her final message to former host Caroline Flack, who died on 15 February 2020 by suicide. The documentary examines her tragic passing as former Islanders recall the devastating moment they received the news.
Malin confessed: "I reached out to Caroline because I was concerned. I thought about Sophie, I thought about Mike, and I just thought I don't know what kind of support she had around her.
"I sent her a heart on the 13th of February. Just sent her a heart. See, that breaks my heart."
She later went on to say: "It's not like they've been hit by a car or a freak accident. Three people have taken their lives, that's not okay and that's not normal."
Former Islander Luis Morrison revealed in one of the episodes: "I remember seeing Caroline's death on social media, it was sad to see and everyone just couldn't believe it."
In tribute, podcaster Orlaith Condon reflected: "I just really remember that sense of loss that I felt for someone I had never met.
"That was Caroline's gift, she really made us feel like we were in on it with her and she was our girl on the inside."
ITV has been contacted for comment. The broadcaster issued a statement to Prime Video stating due to confidentiality, they could not comment on individuals' welfare, but confirmed their "duty of care procedures have evolved significantly over time."
They continued: "We have added elements such as language and behaviour training for participants as well as a social media blackout for the duration of their time on the show." Islanders also have contact with welfare producers for a period of 14 months post show.
The Curse of Love Island can be streamed on Prime Video
